Joe Montes de Oca, an experienced iNaturalist user, is available to provide training/answer questions most weekdays from 2:30PM-8:00PM. Sunrise Kayak Adventure Bioblitz at Crandon Park

Kick off City Nature Challenge weekend in a kayak and watch as the sun rises over the ocean and host of wildlife comes to life above and beneath you! This 2.5 hour guided paddle takes participants along Crandon Park’s Bear Cut Preserve where your guide will introduce you to the ecology of this barrier island paradise, including the seagrass beds, sand flats, an ancient fossilized reef and the serene mangrove forest. Enjoy the tranquility of dawn in one of Miami’s last remaining pockets of nature before the hustle and bustle of the day.
Advance registration is required. Due to the nature of the program, walk-up registrations are not accepted. As a reminder, children 14 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.

Zoo Miami Pineland Preserve Bioblitz with Miami-Dade County's Environmentally Endangered Lands Program

We need your help to restore environmentally sensitive lands in Miami-Dade County! The EEL Program manages over 27,000 acres all over the county, including critically imperiled pine rocklands. It's not easy - but together, we will help protect and restore our rare native habitats by removing invasive plants, enhancing trails, restoring native vegetation, and conducting cleanup activities. Volunteers are taught to identify various invasive non-native plants while gaining a greater understanding of the local habitats and rare ecosystems unique to South Florida. Use iNaturalist to help EEL identify and manage these critical and unique plant communities and win the City Nature Challenge! Closed-toed shoes and long pants required for participation.

Join our naturalists as we set the record straight on bats, a group of fantastic but misunderstood creatures. The program will start with a short presentation inside on the importance of and common misconceptions on bats, followed by a night hike where we will use special acoustic devices to listen for bat calls that we may not be able to hear with the human ear. We will learn about a FREE digital app called iNaturalist that provides resources to learn about nature in your backyard and also helps scientists better understand how biodiversity is doing. People of all ages are welcome to join for a leisurely stroll through the park. If possible, please download the FREE iNaturalist app on your smartphone or tablet before coming.
Meet in the parking lot near the playground, located at 7050 W Broward Blvd, Plantation, FL, 33317. We will start with a brief demo of the iNauralist app before starting down the trail.

City Nature Challenge Bioblitz at Simpson Park

Come explore the Historic Simpson Park Hammock on April 29, 2023 at 10:00AM and help South Florida win the City Nature Challenge! City Nature Challenge is a global competition in which cities across the world compete to see who can observe the most species. Species from all of life's domains can be observed and submitted. The observations will be made using the iNaturalist app or website. Participants should bring a camera or smartphone with the iNaturalist or Seek app installed. Instructions on how to use iNaturalist will be provided at the event, but feel free to practice at home before you come. Event is open to all ages. Pets are not allowed at Simpson Park. Deering Estate City Nature Challenge Hike!

As part of the City Nature Challenge, Deering Estate that will be hosting guided nature hikes at 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM into our 440+ acre preserve on April 29th yet you can arrive and walk around the public areas starting at 10 am.
Participants of all ages are encouraged to join with a cell phone device that has the iNaturalist app downloaded. (Available on Google Play and App Store). Free WiFi (PARKGUEST@MIAMIDADE.GOV) is available to visitors in select areas of the park. A Deering Estate naturalist will guide participants on the main trail for an hour where they will stop and record flora and fauna species they encounter.
COST: $15 for adults and $7 for children (ages 4-14), and free for Foundation Members (please show your membership card onsite on the day of your visit). Includes entrance to the park, covers your participation in the event, and self-guided admission to the historical museums for the rest of the day. Purchase tickets online. NOTE: For reduced admission ($13 senior, $13 military), purchase on-site the day of.
